New client onboarding

  • Before we agree to work together, you and I will talk over the phone (click here to request a free 15-min consultation call). During the call, I hope to learn more about your reasons for seeking therapy and for you to learn more about me by asking questions to assess if we are a good fit. If we mutually agreed to work together, we will schedule an intake appointment.

  • Before the first appointment, you will receive an email from TherapyAppointment (Electric Health Record system for my practice) asking you to complete pre-intake paperwork including consent forms, questionnaires, and payment information. I expect these forms to be completed before your intake appointment. If they are not completed, we will have to spend a portion of your appointment to complete them, which leaves a shorter time for an intake.

Payment

  • I am not paneled with any health insurance and I am a private pay, out-of-network provider. Please check FAQ to learn why.

  • I can provide a superbill for you to submit it to insurance for possible reimbursement. Please check FAQ below to learn more about superbill.

  • Your payment is due at each session. You will be automatically charged using the payment information you provided after each session.

  • Accepted forms of payment include credit and HSA/FSA cards. I do not accept cash or checks.

Late cancellation & missed appointment

  • If you cancel with less than a 24-hour notice or miss a session without canceling in advance, you will be charged at 75% of the fee for the duration of the scheduled session.

FAQ

  • I typically work with my clients for about 8-16 visits depending on your goal and progress. When you decide that you feel good about where you are at after regular visits and would like to continue, I’m happy to support you on an as-needed basis or by continuing regular or semi-regular visits upon your request.

  • Briefer sessions can be a good fit:

    • If you have never done therapy and are interested in experimenting if therapy would fit what you are looking for, but you are not yet ready to invest in longer sessions

    • If you have done the work and want therapy sessions to maintain your healing & growth and don’t find longer sessions necessary

    • If you are a busy professional or have too many obligations in life and want to fit therapy into your life, but you find longer therapy sessions too demanding for your life at the moment

    • If you are an existing client of mine and ready for briefer therapy sessions

    • If you want a targeted, focused treatment that’s focused on problem solving

    • If you live with chronic illnesses like diabetes and would like focus on lifestyle change to manage your condition

  • The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT®) is an interstate compact designed to facilitate the practice of telepsychology and the temporary in-person, face-to-face practice of psychology across state boundaries.

I am licensed as a psychologist in Washington state and am authorized to practice in states participating in PSYPACT via telehealth. Please check this map to see if the state you live is a part of PSYPACT.

  • I understand that paying out-of-pocket for therapy can feel like a big investment, so I would like to be transparent about why and how I can support you in making it work.

When insurance is involved, it often means some limits on the course of treatment (e.g., number of sessions, approach I take, what we can work on) that may not be best to address your needs, issues with reimbursements (e.g., lower reimbursement rates than what is appropriate for my level of training and experiences, possible denials), and resulting administrative burdens (e.g., a lot of paperwork, phone calls with a long wait time) that pull my attention away from clients.

To provide quality of care you deserve while maintaining sustainable practice, I’ve set fees that reflect my training and allow me to continue growing professionally. Instead, I can assist you to get possible reimbursements through your out-of-network benefits by providing superbill.

Here are some articles that outline issues with insurance system:

  • Here is a linkthat explains superbill.

An important note from the link: “Before your first session, check with your insurance provider to confirm whether you have out-of-network coverage, whether prior authorization is needed, and what portion of the cost they may reimburse.” Please note that having a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement.

  • I work with adult clients living with ADHD or those without a formal ADHD diagnosis who would like to build self-management skills for their attention-related difficulties. I do not offer ADHD diagnostic evaluation.

  • No, I do not have expertise and/or training in other neurodivergent disorders.

  • It depends on how the organization works with the therapist as some require therapists to apply to work with them. Please inquire.

Currently, I accept clients with Lotus Therapy Fund and Asian Organizers Therapy Fund.
